The sun rose in Memphis like the eye of a tiger. Creeping up with its warm glow to pounce the day. Cafe Eclectic was quiet as I imagine most of campus sleeping off their hangovers from celebrating victory at the Liberty Bowl last night. My mocha was served and I took a moment to smell the coco powder so gently tapped atop pyramids of cream. The cafe was cozy and my eyes remained fixed on the chalk mural of two tigers sipping coffee.
We were in and out of Memphis before I could say a prayer. The University was a quick blur of Fedex planes, tiger statues, and more high heals at a tailgate than I could count. In the words of our Uber driver, “Finest women in the world – oh man – cut like cornbread“. I’ll be back for you Memphis.
